Videos on youTube

May 13, 2008

We have been using Video on the Gettysburg site since April 2006. As has happened with much of higher ed videos have played a more dominant role in web strategy over the last 2 years. As youTube has exploded it presents an interesting challenge for schools.

  • Do you use youTube to host your online videos?
  • Do you post to your own flash player and also to youTube?
  • Do you create your own youTube page like USC?

What is your video strategy? and Why?

Higher Ed lessons learned

April 29, 2008

I admit it … I watch BRAVO channel 52 on my cable in Adams County, PA. My favorite show on BRAVO is top chef. The premise of this reality show is 16 chefs who “cook-off” until all but one has “packed their knives” and gone.

So you are probably asking yourself why is he talking about this show on a blog about high ed web marketing? I have always been impressed with BRAVO TV’s ability to tie their TV show to new media. If you visit their website you can see:

  • blogs from the judges
  • photo diaries
  • games
  • message boards

They do a great job of interacting and engaging their visitors. If you watch the show (wed nights at 10) you also have the ability to text message responses to questions about which chef might win or lose in a night.

Here is an example of a TV show who has managed to really embrace new media opportunities. Where can we in higher ed learn from this example and think outside the box as it relates to our more traditional publications?

Why can’t politics work this way?

April 25, 2008

Living in PA the last 6 weeks I have gotten a little sick of the political talking heads arguing small points of order about the details of how to achieve universal health care. Here is a Youtube video that I just saw on TV that makes me think it could all be so much easier…
